Canadian Comic Prices
The Canadian Dollar takes gigantic swings regularly. In 2015 it hit a low of $.71 US, from parity just a year before.
What you may not know is that we are invoiced by our US based distributor in US dollars.
In order to remain in business, we need to charge an exchange rate based on what we are charged or we can’t make money, and would have to shut our virtual doors. This isn’t something that we want, and we definitely don’t want to ever leave you, our loyal subscribers, without your monthly comic fix.
We thought about this quite a bit, and decided on a solution. We charge you a floating exchange rate based on what we are billed, and apply your discount after it.
A real world example from this week looks like this:
$3.99 US comic x 1.26 exchange rate = $5.02 (this is based on the rate we are billed on that week’s comics)
– 20% discount (1.00)
Your cost = $4.02
As the dollar fluctuates, our prices will go up and down, if we get back to a .97 dollar, that same comic goes way down to $3.09. We’re sorry that we have to do this, but it’s the only fair thing to do with the fluctuations in the dollar, and the fact that we have to remain profitable in order to stay open.
